It’s official: Wade Wilson has ditched satellite and finally gotten Cable!
Yesterday it was announced that Oscar-nominated actor Josh Brolin will be joining the cast of Deadpool 2 as Cable, a role that has been hotly contested since the movie was announced. Other actors rumored to be in consideration were Michael Shannon, David Harbour, and even Keira Knightly (though that was admittedly more of a fan-casting). Cable is the time-travelling, super-powered son of X-Man Cyclops whose military-like rigidity juxtaposes Deadpool’s sarcastic toilet humor.
The announcement came as a surprise to many, since Brolin is also a member of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe as the titan Thanos, the antagonist of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity Wars films. Some fans have voiced concern over potential confusion at the same actor being in both franchises, but that’s nothing compared to the confusion around the actual X-Men film timeline. So if you’re keeping a tally at home, go ahead and mark Brolin under ‘Disney Marvel’ and ‘FOX Marvel’, then stare longingly at the empty space under ‘DC Films’.
In the first of a reportedly four-picture deal (per Hollywood Reporter) Brolin will be featured alongside Zazie Beetz as a mercenary named Domino and the titular ‘merc with a mouth’ Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds. Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and is set to begin production in June, with a release slated for 2018.
